Sisters advocating for environment on behalf of the ignored and excludeds
On Thursday afternoon, the International Union of Superiors general launches a statement intended to “reflect and clarify the response of Catholic Sisters to the environmental challenges of our time”.
VIVAT International, a Non-Governmental Organization representing 11 Catholic Religious Congregations at the United Nations, will participate in COP27 at Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, 6-18 November 2022. The delegates are Fr. Paul Rahmat SVD, Sr. Paola Moggi CMS, and Br. Alberto Parise MCCJ. They will share their experiences, insights, and reflections from the Conference on 11 November. African Climate Dialogues communiqué launched today. The Communiqué of the African Climate dialogues (ACD) was presented by His Eminence Fridolin Besungu Cardinal Ambongo at an online press conference hosted by SECAM and members of the ACD Steering Committee. Respondents included: Mr Ephraim Shitima; Chair of the African Group of Negotiators; Tasneem Essop, Executive Director of CAN-International and Ineza Umuhoza Grace, Director of the Loss & Damage Youth Coalition and Negotiator with the Government of Rwanda.
The Communiqué consists of key messages and policy demands from a series of five dialogues sessions which took place between July and September 2022 on the topics of False Climate Solutions and the Congo Basin; Food Systems, agriculture and adaptation; Climate Finance; Loss and Damage and Adaptation; and Climate-Induced Migration & Displacement to emphasize the urgent and transformative action needed by world leaders, business leaders and decision makers at the UN climate conference COP27 in Egypt.
